81-year-old man killed during home invasion; suspect shoots himself in bathroom, authorites say

NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WTVA/Gray News) - An 81-year-old Mississippi man was shot and killed during a home invasion, authorities said.Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards said the shooting happened around 4 a.m. Thursday at a home.An 81-year-old man identified as Bobby McGill and a woman were in bed when the suspect, Eric Basco, allegedly entered the home.The woman escaped and called 911, while McGill tried to fight off Basco.Authorities said the suspect allegedly got ahold of McGill’s gun and killed the 81-year-old man.Edwards said Basco appeared to have entered the home to burglarize it. He then went into a bathroom and shot himself, the sheriff said.Basco is recovering at a hospital.
